The 16th Note Rhythm

By Darren DeFranco

Hey everybody,

In today’s lesson we’re going to learn about a brand new rhythm – the 16th note. This is one of the faster rhythms we’ll come across. The idea is pretty simple – we’re going to break down beats into four notes. Whenever you hear a fast solo or anything like that, chances are you’re listening to 16th notes. We’ll break down this rhythm and how to count it to make it super simple for you.

Have fun guys!

16th notes are among the fastest rhythms you’ll play which is why you need to take it super slow at first. You’ll be practicing 16th notes for the rest of your guitar life so this is only the beginning!

Try setting your metronome to something very slow like 40bpm and just try to get a consistent 16th note picking pattern. Remember, always use alternative picking for 16th notes!
