Mutes

By Darren DeFranco

Hey guys,

In this lesson we’re going to learn a brand new technique, this time it’s the mute. The technique is just what it sounds like – we mute the strings mid strum and get them dead quiet. This immediate shift to silence can actually create some interesting rhythmic and groove patterns, making muting a must know for any rhythm guitar player.

Have fun with the new technique guys!

Being able to shift between regular strumming and muting is always a good skill to have. Try playing three regularly strummed eigth notes on a G major root 6 barre chord, then mute the last eighth note. Practice this until it’s comfortable!
