Chucks

By Darren DeFranco

Hey everybody!

In this lesson we’re going to learn a brand new technique, this time it’s the ‘chuck.’ A chuck is basically when you lay your hand gently across all the strings and strum, creating a muted ‘chuck’ sound. This is a technique common in reggae as well as rock. It’s really nice to mix it in with regular strumming to get a dynamic rhythm guitar sound.

Enjoy the new technique guys!

Chucks aren’t a terribly difficult technique, but it’s important to be able to know how to switch from regular strumming to chucks. Try taking a G major root 6 barre chord and strumming four eighth notes with standard strumming and then four with chucks. This will give you some practice going between the two.
