Ugly-Beautiful Chord Soloing

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey guys,

We’ve got a nifty little lesson for you today! We’re going to take a minor 7 b5 chord and move it along the notes of a pentatonic scale on our top four strings to make a chord-solo. This is a classic jazz trick used in swing music and has been a favorite of players like Brian Setzer. It’s not too difficult of a technique and sounds a little off but still awesome.

Enjoy the lesson guys!

Master this riff and then try to create your own little chord-solo using the minor 7 b5 along a pentatonic scale.
