Steely Dan Style Root 6 7th Chord Riff

By Darren DeFranco

Hey guys,

7th chords are a favorite among jazz players, but bands like Steely Dan brought these chords and played them in a rock setting to create a whole new style and sound. Today’s riff demonstrates how 7th chords can be used in a jazz/rock setting typical of the this 70′s mega group. We really hope you like the riff!

Enjoy the lesson guys!

Master this riff and you’ll be ready to move on. Then, try using root 6 7th chords to create your own jazz/rock riff. We’d love to see what you come up with!
