Key of C 7th Chords

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey guys,

Now that we have a grasp of the various shapes we’ll need to play 7th chords, we’re going to apply them to a key. Once you get a handle of how this works, you’ll be able to combine the various 7th chords in a key to write some smooth, jazzy songs.

Enjoy the lesson guys!

Memorize which chords in a key get turned into which 7th chords. In other words, learn how the I and IV chords become major 7 chords, the V chord becomes a dominant 7, and the ii iii and vi become minor 7 chords. Also, the vii chord becomes a minor7 b5. Next, try mixing and matching these chords in the key of C to create your own riff.
