Open C Major Scale

By Darren DeFranco

Hey guys,

Now that you guys understand scale diagrams, it’s time to learn your first scale! We’re going to start out with the C major scale, a common and classic scale. From these seven individual notes countless songs have been written. The major scale has the ‘do ray mi’ sound that we’ve all heard before, so listen for that as you play it.

If you have any questions about the scale, please let us know!

1) Memorize all of the notes of the C major scale.

2) Next, memorize where on the fretboard those notes are. This is extremely important because knowing what note you’re playing as opposed to what fret will make you a far better musician

3) Try going up the scale and down the scale comfortably in a steady 8th note rhythm.
