The Phrygian Scale

Hey guys,

Today we’ve got another scale up, this time it’s the Phrygian mode. This scale is great for many styles, including classical Spanish, Metal, and more. At it’s heart, the Phrygian mode is a minor scale with a flat second. Let’s look at an example. An A minor scale has the following notes:

A B C D E F G

However, an A Phrygian scale would have these notes:

A Bb C D E F G

So you can see that the scales are very similar except for the second degree of the scale. But that one change makes a huge difference!

So take your time with this scale and really let it sink in!
