The Kingsmen – “Louie Louie” (Chords)

By Darren DeFranco

What’s the good word everybody?
Finally, you’ve grinded through learning the three basic chord families, and now you get rewarded with an actual song! We’ve got a frat rock classic, the Kingsmen’s “Louie Louie.” No one can understand a word he sings, but everyone sings along anyway. Try to just get the chords first, then the strumming, then put it together.

We’d love to hear how you’re doing, so feel free to record yourself playing the song and put a youtube link in the comments! Have fun guys!

To master this song, here are a few steps to take:

1) Start off by just learning the chords and practice transitioning from one to another. At this point, don’t worry about strumming.

2) Next, just try the strumming. Don’t worry about playing any chords, the open strings would be fine. The point here is to get your right hand coordinated

3) After that put the two together – play the appropriate chords and add in the strumming. The goal here is to have each chord come in on time, so you don’t want any pauses between songs. So this means you might have to take it at a slower speed to start off. But that’s ok!
