SRV Style Muted Rhythm Technique

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey guys,

SRV Vaughn is one of the greatest blues players of all time, and one of his trademark techniques was muting the strings while strumming them to create a percussive effect. He would often work this into a standard walking bass line to create a shuffle and groove in his playing. Today, we’ll break this technique down and show you to play like the master.

Have fun guys!

Master this technique and you’ll be ready to move on! One cool thing you can do with this is create any sort of walking bass line you wish, whether it’s based on arpeggios, pentatonics, or anything else. You’ve got a lot of room to be creative.
