7th Chord Arpeggios

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey guys,

One of the most common techniques to play a jazz solo is to use 7th chord arpeggios. Basically, we’ll be playing the notes of a 7th chord one at a time instead of all together like we would for a normal chord. In future lessons we’ll look at specifically how to use these arpeggios to make a solo, but for now we’re just going to learn the shapes and patterns. There will four total, the major 7, minor 7, dominant 7, and minor 7 b5.

Enjoy the arpeggios guys!

Memorize all four 7th chord shapes. Then, try to play the following arpeggios for practice:

A major 7

C# minor 7

F minor 7 b5

D7
