3 Up 1 Down Pattern

By Darren DeFranco

Hey everybody,

Today we’re going to learn a sequence to help our guitar technique as well as get additional practice to reinforce the major scale. Sequences like these are very common in solos and build the foundation for flashy playing, so they’re worth practicing!

Good luck, and have fun!

At this point in your guitar career you should be developing a bit more technical ability. However, when you learn a new sequence like this it’s still important to take it slow. Try playing this pattern with 8th notes, setting your metronome to 70bpm. Try bumping it up one beat per minute every two days, practicing ten minutes a day.
