The Mixolydian Scale

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey everybody,

Today we’re going to learn a classic scale used in playing classic rock, southern rock, jazz, blues, and many other styles of lead guitar. The Mixolydian scale is very similar to the major scale except that it features a flat seven tone. So for example, a C major scale has the notes:

C D E F G A B

A C Mixolydian scale, though, has the notes

C D E F G A Bb

You see the difference? While subtle, that one note really makes a big difference.

So take your time with this scale and really let it sink in!

Learn and memorize this scale before moving on.
