The Hendrix Style – “The Hendrix Chord”

By Darren DeFranco

Hey Hendrix fans,

In today’s lesson we’re going to learn a very powerful chord that became a favorite of Hendrix. This chord is called the #9 chord and has a very bluesy, rockin, psychadelic sound. Though it originally started as a jazz chord, when played with a little fuzz it sounds perfect for rock.

Have fun with this new chord!

Memorize and master this chord. In a previous lesson we talked about the five main classic rock chords. The Hendrix chord is awesome to substitute as a I chord, so for the key of E, the five classic rock chords would be E, G, A, B, and D. Try playing an E7#9 and mixing it with those other chords. It’ll sound awesome!
