The Edge Style – “Chord Partials”

Hey guys,

Today we’re going to explore some of the chord ideas made famous by The Edge from U2. The Edge rarely plays full on barre chords or open chords. Instead, he plays smaller chord partials and typically adds in digital delay to get his signature sound. Today, we’ll look at some of his favorite shapes and show you how you can use them to create your own Edge style riffs.

Master the riff we gave you, then try taking a standard chord progression and playing them as chord partials with some added Edge style delay. Here are a couple to get you started:

C – A minor – F – G

D major – B minor – A major – G major

E major – A major – C# minor – B major
