Root 5 Major Scale

By Darren DeFranco

Hey guys,

So far we’ve learned the root 6 major scale and checked out some killer riffs that use it. Today, we’re going to learn about it’s cousin, the root 5 major scale. It’s still technically the same scale, but now finds its root note on the 5th string. Learning this scale will give us more options for soloing and will allow us to play certain patterns and riffs we couldn’t play using the root 6 scale. Once we get a handle on this scale we’ll start to learn some great riffs that use it.

Enjoy the lesson guys!

Take some time to memorize this scale. Then, quiz yourself by being able to play the following scales: A major, D minor, C major, B minor, D# major, Bb minor
