Open E Pentatonic Scale

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey guys,

Today we’re learning a brand new scale and introducing you to one of the most important topics in guitar – pentatonics. The pentatonic scale is a five note scale that is very versatile and often used for soloing in rock, blues, metal, jazz, among other styles. The open e pentatonic scale is the easiest to play because it incorporates all of the open strings.

We hope you enjoy learning about this scale!

Here’s your homework for your newly learned scale:

1) Simply learn the scale – what frets to play and what the actual notes are.

2) Practice going up and down the scale smoothly in a simple quarter note rhythm at first, then try 8th notes while alternating your picking.

3) Play the scale in different patterns: Try going up four notes, play a note back, go up another four, etc.
