Intro to Reggae Chords

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey GBUers,

In today’s lesson we’re going to take a different approach towards playing chords. Up until now, we’ve been playing big, full chords that use most if not all the strings. But when playing in a band situation, sometimes these big chords cause us to walk over the other band members and sound too full! To remedy this, guitarists will often use smaller shaped chords that only use three notes. These are tighter, punchier chords that are used all the time, from reggae to rock and more.

In today’s lesson we’ll introduce you to these new chord types.

In future videos we’ll really dive into the different reggae chord shapes and learn some riffs, but as long as you get the concept you should be good for now.
