Hammer Ons and Pull Offs

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey everybody,

Welcome to the world of hammer ons and pull offs! This is a brand new technique that is very important to all sorts of styles. Hammer ons and pull offs help give our playing a much smoother sound. Also, because we’re not picking every single note, it lets us play much faster. This is one of the secrets of shredders, so it’s important to get good at your hammer ons and pull offs!

Have fun with the lesson guys!

Try going up the scale super slowly using hammer ons, and descend the scale using pull offs. Set your metronome to something like 70 bpm and try to play along accurately. Every four times you get it, bump up the metronome by 1 bpm.
