Filter Style Lydian Progression

By Darren DeFranco

Hey guys,

Often times, alternative bands use modes to get different sounds and break away from the conventional sounds out there. Today, we’ll be checking out a riff in the style of Filter that demonstrates the lydian mode, known for it’s ethereal, dream-like quality. The big difference between a major scale and a lydian is that sharp four, so we like to emphasize that note when we play lydian songs. So for this G lydian riff, the sharp four would be a C# note.

Have fun, and enjoy the riff.

Master this riff and you’ll be good to go.
