Create Killer Progressions With Dominant Resolution

By Eric Hufschmid

Hey guys,

Creating a solid chord progression is the backbone to any great song. One of the best practices for creating powerful progressions is through the use of dominant resolution. In this lesson we’ll explain all there is to know about this technique and we’ll show you how you might use it in a song. Practice this progression listening as you switch to hear the sound of the “resolution” to the next chord. Always be conscious of what key you are in.

Enjoy the lesson guys!

Try this in other keys. Look for the pattern of the resolution. Try creating your own progressions. You don’t need to do it for the whole song or progression, but it’s good to use especially at the end to lead back to the first chord.

Tip: If you remember using BEADGCF in the circle of fifths, then you’ve already memorized the pattern. EXAMPLE: B leads to E… E leads to A… A leads to D… D leads to G etc.
